Interviewing Customers No 2

1.  Last week I went around town and interviewed potential customers about the opportunity about stress related to traffic.  What  learned from these interviews and research is that although there is a problem with traffic and the stress that comes from traffic, the business opportunities that stem from this problem are slim and require a lot of research and development cost.  This week, I decided to go off a completely new opportunity.  This opportunity stems from delivery services for department stores like Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, etc.

2. Last time, I only interviewed students.  Now this can be effective because Gainesville's population is dominated by students, but this time, I am interviewing both students and working individuals to figure out what demographic this opportunity should target.

3.  Even though  changed my opportunity and the question's content were different, I also changed the style of questions I asked.  The first set of interviews, all my questions were yes or no questions and I did not get a full understanding of how the customers felt about the opportunity.  This time, I asked a mixture of yes and no questions and more in depth questions.  This allowed me to understand more about the customers instead of assuming.

5.  I learned that there is definitely an opportunity for this problem.  People think of services like Gainesville2Go and Doorstop Delivery as a convenience luxury. This luxury helps when people are busy and have other jobs they need to get done beforehand.  Extending this service to department stores allows people to conveniently get their jobs done as well as get the merchandise they need for the day.

6.  The advice i would give future students for interviewing customers is to practice your questions, be confident in yourself, and relax.  It is scary to put yourself out their and interview random people, but once you start, it gets a lot easier, and people are not as mean and scary as you think.

  1. Hello Brandon,

It is nice to find a student that actually did the assignment. Granted, I did not do it myself, but it was the first assignment I missed and I was ill for the last 6 days and could not get out. Sorry about the tangent, just surprised at the lack of effort put forward by a lot of students.

I like your new idea, there is always opportunities for delivery tasks. Especially for stores like Home Depot and Loews. People without trucks would appreciate that kind of service. (for the larger items) Sounds like you have a good grasp on how to handle your interviews and questioning. Good work.

    Good luck with your semester,

  3. Hey Brandon!

First off, I commend you for interviewing new people about a new opportunity idea. I think you really thought outside of the box for both ideas. You seem to really understand your idea and the best customers to be aware of. I would love to have your idea implemented in Gainesville. College students have such busy schedules, and I think having this delivery system would make day-to-day life easier for us.

Check out my post when you get a chance:

  4. Hey Brandon!

Great work! It really takes courage to put yourself out there an interview random people, but you did it!
I like that you're targeting other potential customers rather than just students. You can really learn a lot more by interviewing people with different perspectives.
    Keep it up.

  5. Hey Brandon! I enjoyed watching your interviews and hearing all the feedback that these students gave you. Your idea sounds awesome and it would definitely be cool to see it implemented in the future. Good luck with your final set of interviews! Unfortunately, I cannot share the link to my post because I have not done it yet.
